Here’s the press release from Quinnipiac University Athletics about yesterday’s Bobcat Flea Market:

Quinnipiac Department Of Athletics And Recreation And QU 301 Host Bobcat Flea Market

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University Department of Athletics and Recreation and QU 301 hosted the Bobcat Flea Market on Thursday, April 12, 2012 outside of the Athletics and Recreation Center on Mount Carmel Avenue, as part of a Service Learning initiative to benefit children of South Africa. The event produced a grand total of $2,642.19, which will go directly to several predetermined projects planned by members of the committee.

“The Bobcat Flea Market is a great example of how members of our local Quinnipiac community have the ability to make changes in the global community,” said Project Director Peter Gallay. “The proceeds from this event will make a monumental difference in the lives of the people of Varkplass (outside of Cape Town, South Africa). A special thanks to Jack McDonald and the entire Quinnipiac University Athletic Department for helping us make such a positive impact.”

The merchandise for the event was generously donated by administrators, coaches and staff representatives of Quinnipiac Athletics. The tables were full of t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, jerseys, shoes, hats, sunglasses and much more. The market also included old Braves attire as well.

“It is always a huge thrill when our students and student-athletes combine their efforts for the community and the impoverished children of the world,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald. “I could not be prouder of the Quinnipiac University student involvement and everything they do for surrounding local, national and world-wide communities.”

Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities.

  1. The Tippy Toes Foundation (@tippytoesSA) is so proud to be working with the QU301 South Africa class on the exciting projects being developed for the Varkplaas community. All of our work so far has been without funding hence the amazement at the amount of money you managed to raise. I hope that people continue to follow the phenomenal work that this International project of change is yet to unveil. Thank-you SO much to all involved in organisation, sponsorship and those who supported the flea market! ❤
