This week after our gathering, a few of us girls spent time organizing and packing five suitcases of luggage full of clothes and other donations that we can bring to South Africa. I was initially shocked at how much had been collected already, since we didn’t even pack all of the items! From clothing for toddlers to apparel for juniors and adults, there are a lot of items that will hopefully make many people happy when they receive them.
Before folding and organizing the articles of clothing, I thought about what each item would mean to someone. Here in the United States we don’t think much of clothing other than what is current with the trend and in fashion, but for places and people out there in the world it’s a means of protection against the cold or something clean to walk around in public. Although it put a depressing thought into my mind, I stayed positive and thought how these clothes, shoes, and toys that we’ve collected are going to make some people so happy. Instantly that put a smile on my face. I can not wait to help change some of these people’s lives, or to even help them out in some small, minuscule way that would give them happiness.
When we held up dresses for the little girls I could not help but picture what they would look like and how excited they’d be to dress up. I remember when I was a little girl, all my friends and I wanted to do was dress up and play pretend. I hope this will give these girls the opportunity to do just that. Imagination is key after all.
We hope to have at least 12 suitcases of donations to bring with us, one for each member of the QU301 South Africa journey. So far we have packed five, and are looking for more donations and contributions, whether it be coats, shoes, hats, gloves, toys, money -anything that may help someone in need. It could be used, new, old, or hand me downs, it doesn’t matter as long as it is clean! If you or someone that you know can help donate, please contact one of us here on this blog by leaving a comment with your email or number and we can be in contact with you.
Let’s help lives together!
